Steins’ Beer and Mussel Festival returns

The Beer and Mussel Festival is returning to Rick and Jill Stein’s Cornish Arms, at St Merryn, on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17.

Building on the success of last year’s event, it will offer visitors the opportunity to discover some of the finest Cornish and British beers, as well as enjoying a variety of mussel dishes. There will be live music throughout the weekend, entertainment for children and, hopefully, some sun!

Freshly cooked Cornish mussels will be in ready suppl,y with recipes chosen to compliment the beers such as Moules Marinière, La Mouclade and mussels with beer and bacon.

The festival weekend will open with a cookery demonstration by Rick’s son, Jack, at noon on Saturday. Rick said: “March is the best month in the year for mussels; any time is good for proper beer brewed by people who love what they do. A big marquee next to our lovely pub, with some great bands, a selection of 30 beers and some of my favourite mussel dishes; what could be a better combination on a weekend by the coast in Cornwall?”

The cookery demo will be combined with a talk from St Austell Brewery’s head brewer, Roger Ryman. He said: “I have selected some of my very favorite cask ales to match with Rick’s fantastic selection of mussel dishes. Great food, great beer, great pub; the festival has all the ingredients of a fantastic weekend’.”

The festival will run on Saturday from noon to 11pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm) and will finish with a charity pub quiz raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West, on Sunday at 5pm. Rick will also be signing books throughout the festival (times to be confirmed).
