Brains picks up two Publican awards

Cardiff based brewer SA Brain & Co has scooped two awards at the leading industry awards. The company won best managed pub company and best food offer (both in the categories for 51 or more sites) at the Publican Awards 2013, which recognise the achievements of pub companies across the UK.

The awards were presented on Monday at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel by TV personality Rob Brydon. The winners were selected following a four-stage judging process including an initial paper judging, interviews with senior representatives from the company by business journalists and mystery site visits. The final stage was a panel interview held in February at London’s Lancaster Hotel, with judges including city analysts, industry consultants, business journalists and pub guide editors.

The Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s group editor, Rob Willock, said: “The Publican Awards judging is an extensive and rigorous process which really puts businesses under scrutiny. In these challenging trading times it is fantastic to see our award winners continuing to grow their businesses and bring innovations to their customers.”

Philip Lay, retail director at SA Brain & Co, said: “Whilst we were hopeful that we might win an award, we could never have expected to pick up two, reflecting the overall quality of our business, as well as the great food range that we are becoming increasingly famous for in our pubs. The awards are well deserved and our hardworking teams can take great pride in being recognised for delivering outstanding experiences with passion and pride, across our business.”
